Solar Power Panel - The Answer to High Energy Cost
By Orlando Racelis
Enough is enough! I am sure you will agree with me that it is about time for us to find for an alternative energy source. The high energy cost is really hurting our economy. What are our options? What are available in the market? Is the technology available to consumers like us? Can we develop it ourselves or can others build it for us? How can we be sure we can save money from it?
I have done some research about it and there is one type of renewable energy source that attracted me. It is the Solar Power. Among the alternative renewable energy resources, it is the most promising. I will discuss with you its merits but let me first give you some basic information about Solar Energy.
Solar energy basically refers to the utilization of energy radiated from the sun. It is sometimes called as Solar power source. There are several ways on how we tap the power of the sun. The most popular and the recent method is with the use of solar cells where it converts the solar energy to electricity.
The secret behind all these application is with the discovery of Solar cells or the photovoltaic cell. These Solar Cells are made of two semiconductor materials that are sandwiched together. Semiconductors are made up of millions of atoms. As we know, atoms consist of positively charged nucleus and a negatively charged electrons. When you put these two semiconductors together in sandwich, electrons become pulled from the bottom half of the sandwiched materials to the top half. We know too that electrons need a force to knock it off from the atom bond. Sunlight has enough power to knock the electrons out from its atom. The releasing of electrons from the atom produces energy.
To convert this energy into electricity, we need to connect a wire on each side of the the semiconductor. A situation where you have a positive polarity and a negative polarity, where electrons can flow. If you connect these two wires into a direct current motor, it will make the motor rotor rotate, thereby electricity is produced. These electric energy can then be stored into a battery where you can use the power during the night.
What are the factors you will need to consider in using Solar Power Panels at home? One most important factor is its efficiency. It is dependent on the quality of the solar cell, positioning of the panel in relation to sunlight exposure, and the suns availability in your location. The general rule is the more area of sunlight exposure, the more electricity can be produced. The other factor is the cost of installing the panel into your
house. It is best that you hire a professional contractor to do it for you.
Let me now give you Solar Power Panels role in the lowering your Energy cost. Here are its applications:
* Alternative source of power to run vehicles.
* Power up small gadgets like watches and calculators.
* Power Up Emergency Lights.
* Backup power for motor boats.
* Power up vents and fans.
* Power up outdoor lights.
* Power up ground stake lights.
* Power up security lights.
* Power up spot and floodlights.
* Power up wall lights.
* Power up stepping stone lights.
* Alternative power to run small D.C. motors.
As you can see, once the Solar Power Panel is installed properly into your home, your energy consumption from the public utility will dramatically go down. New technologies about electric car is becoming very promising. It will not take long that all cars will be converted to non fossil fuel source, and solar powered battery cars will soon dominate the highways.
